Watch: Saim Ayub nailed a stunning, no-look scoop-flick for six in the PSL today (March 8), in a stunning opening blitz with Babar Azam as Peshawar Zalmi hit the fourth-highest total ever in the league’s history.
The 20-year-old’s incredible form continued as he hit back-to-back fifties, including the extraordinary six. Facing up to Aimal Khan off the final ball of the 11th over, Ayub moved his back leg well across his stumps and kept low – allowing him to flick the back of a length ball over his shoulder. Having taken his eyes off the ball, he finished off the shot with a stylish flourish, and the ball flew high in the air and over the fine-leg boundary for six.
It was an extraordinary shot, Ayub’s fourth maximum of the innings, with the youngster having already brought up a 24-ball half-century. He went on to hit three more boundaries before he was dismissed by Dwaine Pretorius for 74 off 34 balls.
Opening the batting for Peshawar Zalmi with Babar at the other end, the two put on 162 runs before Ayub was dismissed, the second-highest opening partnership in PSL history. Babar has been involved in both of the top two partnerships, having shared a 176-run stand with Sharjeel Khan for Karachi Kings in 2021.
The Pakistan captain went on to register his eighth T20 century, his first in the Pakistan Super League. Peshawar Zalmi finished their innings on 240-2, the fourth-highest team innings total in PSL history.
