The wicket came in Naseem’s third over of the match, after he had conceded 13 runs from his first two. Powell and Jimmy Neesham, the Peshawar Zalmi batters, looked comfortable and were closing in on a fifty-run stand having put on 45 for the fifth wicket.
Neesham guided the first ball of the over for a single, but Naseem then served up a ripper to Powell. The ball pitched in front of middle stump, just outside the crease. Powell tried to jam his bat down in time but the ball clattered into middle stump and lit up the zing bails.
Fired by the breakthrough, Naseem jumped in the air and shouted in celebration, pointing in Powell’s direction. As the batter walked off the field, Naseem briefly turned back towards him before being embraced by his teammates.
Only three singles came off the rest of Naseem’s over, with the batters only able to find two off his last. He finished with figures of 1-19 from his four overs.
But his performance was not enough to see Quetta Gladiators home, however, as Peshawar Zalmi chased down their 155-run target with nine balls to spare. A quick-fire 38 off 23 balls from Neesham was the highlight of their innings. Earlier in the match, Quetta had gotten off to a poor start when they scored just 28-runs off the powerplay.
