Watch: Jason Roy launches glorious lofted straight six to seal record chase and cap all-time great innings

by Wisden Staff 3 minute read

Watch: Jason Roy sealed a record chase in style today (March 8), launching a glorious straight six to cap off an innings that ranks among the greatest ever played in T20 history.

After a Babar Azam hundred, few would have given Quetta Gladiators, bottom of the Pakistan Super League table, hopes of chasing 241 to win. Only once had a bigger target been chased down in all domestic T20s, but Roy made a mockery of the total, blasting an unbeaten 145 off 63 balls as Quetta Gladiators reached the target with 10 balls to spare.

The innings brought an emphatic close to a poor stretch for Roy in the shortest format, with the England opener left out for the T20 World Cup last year. He had shown signs of a return to form with ODI centuries against South Africa and Bangladesh, but there was nothing like this, the highest individual score in the history of the PSL, and the third highest score in any T20 chase.

Roy brought up his 50 in 22 balls, his hundred in 46 balls, and sealed the chase with his fifth six, to go with 20 fours. It was a fitting end to an unbelievable knock.
