In a thinly veiled dig at Mohammad Amir, Peshawar Zalmi classified captain Babar Azam as a tail-ender in a scorecard after his fifty against Karachi Kings in a PSL match.

A video interview of former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir, tweeted by Pakistani journalist Shoaib Jatt, did the rounds ahead of the Pakistan Super League clash at the National Stadium in Karachi.

Jatt asked Mohammad Amir, who is playing for Karachi Kings this season, about Babar. Amir responded that he did not distinguish the Pakistan captain from tail-enders. The video predictably became viral on social media.

Babar opened the batting with Mohammad Haris, and made a 46-ball 68 to help lift Peshawar Zalmi from 16-2 to 199-5. He added 139 for the third wicket with Tom Kohler-Cadmore, who top-scored with a 50-ball 92.

Amir returned figures of 4-0-42-0. Babar took nine off the five balls he faced off Amir, including a glorious cover drive and a deft flick for fours.

Karachi Kings slipped to 47-4 in response before Shoaib Malik (52 in 34 balls) and Imad Wasim (80 not out in 47) took them to 197-5. Peshawar Zalmi won by two runs.

Over the course of the evening, Peshawar Zalmi had already provided a trailer of what was on the cards when they shared a video of Babar’s cover-drive off Amir with the hashtag #Tailender.

But Peshawar Zalmi saved their best tweet for the early hours of the morning in Pakistan. They uploaded a graphic of the scorecard, with the batters classified into ‘top order’ (for the top three), ‘middle order’ (Nos. 4 to 7), and ‘tail enders’ (the rest).

Under normal circumstances, Babar would have been classified as a top-order bat, but the account slotted him to No.10, in the tail-ender category.
