Lahore Qalandars’ Zaman Khan bowled a three-run final over to help his side to an eight-run victory over Islamabad United in the PSL on Saturday.
With Islamabad requiring 12 runs from the last six balls to chase down a target of 175, Zaman, a 20-year-old quick playing just his ninth T20, held his nerve with some eye-catching death bowling.
With a slingy action not too dissimilar to that of Sri Lanka legend Lasith Malinga, Zaman mixed up his lengths and pace against a potentially destructive batting pair of Azam Khan and Asif Ali, both of whom have fulfilled the ‘finisher’ role for Pakistan in T20Is.
After conceding two singles and a wide, Zaman dismissed Asif with the penultimate ball of the match as the right-hander found David Wiese at long-off.
Earlier in the match, Shadab Khan had starred for Islamabad with both bat and ball. The Pakistan leg-spinner took 4-20 with the ball, removing four of the Qalandars top five, before hitting 52 off just 32 balls with the bat.
But the victory belonged to Lahore, who have three wins from their first four matches of the PSL season.
