Playing against each other in the One World One Family Cup 2024 charity game, the two legends faced off in a battle that lasted just one legal delivery and went in favour of the Sri Lankan great.

Sachin Tendulkar, leading the One World team, came out to open the batting alongside Naman Ojha in a run-chase of 181. The One Family side, led by Yuvraj Singh, had reached a competitive 180-6 on the back of useful contributions from Darren Maddy (51 off 41 balls), Yusuf Pathan (38 off 24) and Yuvraj himself (23 off 10).

Tendulkar looked in good nick in the run chase, having reached 27 off 15 balls in a knock which included three fours and a six until then. Muttiah Muralidaran came on to bowl for the first time in the match in the eighth over of the innings.

As he delivered his first ball, Tendulkar wasn’t ready and deadbatted it without moving from his stance. The ball was not counted as a legal delivery and was signalled dead ball by the umpire.

The very next ball, Tendulkar stepped out and lofted Muralidaran down the ground. While he got the height, he wasn’t able to get the distance as he was caught by Mohammad Kaif on the long on boundary.

Tendulkar was dismissed for 27, but One World finished off the chase rather comfortably, with Alviro Petersen leading the way with 74 runs off 50 balls. They won with one ball and four wickets remaining even as Muralidaran finished with figures of 1-28 from his four overs. Another Sri Lankan legend, Chaminda Vaas, claimed 3-46 from his four overs.
