Washington Freedom won the toss and elected to bat first. Matthew Short gave them a good start and held one end up till the very end. He top scored with 80 off 50 balls with the next highest scorer being captain Moises Henriques who managed 21 off 24.

Washington finished with 163-5 off their 20 overs. Gerald Coetzee was the pick of the bowlers for Texas Super Kings, picking up 2-26 off his four overs. Bravo chipped in with 1-28 off his four overs as well.

In response, the Texas batters couldn’t stitch together a single partnership of note for the first six wickets. After 14 overs, their score read 78-6 with 86 needed off six overs and just four wickets in hand.

Bravo, who had come in at No.7, then started teeing off. He first hit Marco Jansen for a six in the 16th over, followed by two consecutive sixes off Akeal Hosein in the 17th.

It was on the second ball of the 18th over, however, that he creamed one so perfectly that it went not only over the ropes but also out of the stadium. Nortje had bowled the ball hard into the surface at a short of length. Bravo shuffled way outside leg stump in anticipation to make room to free his arms.

In a trademark swing of the blade where he arcs his back backwards, Bravo deposited the short ball over long on for a 106-metre six, with the ball making a cracking sound off the bat.

With that six, the equation came down to 49 needed off 16. Bravo hit five fours and two sixes after that but couldn’t manage to take his team over the line as they finished short by six runs.
