Major League Cricket is the newest league on the franchise circuit and is hoping to broaden the sport’s following in the USA. The first season, set to take place from June 13-30, will feature six teams playing matches across two stadiums. These stadiums are Grand Prairie in Texas, and Church Street Park in North Carolina.
The six teams taking part in the first season are: Los Angeles Knight Riders, MI New York, San Francisco Unicorns, Seattle Orcas, Texas Super Kings and Washington Freedom. Half of the teams are sister teams to those in the IPL, and will feature some of the same players in their squads. Domestic players from the USA, including Liam Plunkett who gave up his England eligibility, will also feature.
Not all of the players have been announced yet, with more signings set to be named in the coming weeks. However, all domestic players have already been announced for all sides.
Texas Super Kings have yet to announce any of their overseas signings, but their squad will boast nine home-grown players. Each squad will also have a wildcard player to pick who cannot be an overseas players. That takes the total squad members allowed to 15, with no more than nine overseas players.
