Watch: Babar Azam brought up his first Lanka Premier League ton in 57 balls during Colombo Strikers’ clash with Galle Titans on August 7.
Babar was initially in two minds about playing in this year’s LPL. Once there, however, he scored his 10th T20 hundred, getting to the landmark with a four off Richard Ngarava. With Colombo Strikers chasing 189, Babar added 111 in 12.2 with his opening partner Pathum Nissanka until the latter was dismissed.
Having reached his fifty in 34 balls, Babar took on the initiative, hitting Akila Dananjaya for two sixes and a four in three balls. He hit a total of four sixes and two fours after the dismissal of Nissanka, taking only 24 balls to get to his second fifty in the innings.
He brought up his hundred – the 10th of his career – with a well-placed boundary. Only Chris Gayle, with 22 T20 tons, has more centuries in the format.
Gayle and Babar are the only players with 10 hundreds. David Warner and Virat Kohli, with eight T20 hundreds each, are next, as are the now-retired Aaron Finch and Michael Klinger. Among Pakistanis, Sharjeel Khan, Ahmed Shehzad, and Kamran Akmal have five hundreds each.
