Several star names have been signed to play in the 2023 season of the Lanka Premier League, which is scheduled to start at the end of July – here are all the pre-signed names who are so far confirmed to feature in LPL 2023.
Babar Azam is set to play for the Colombo Strikers alongside Pakistan teammate Naseem Shah. This will be Babar’s first stint in the franchise tournament, which will be the LPL’s fourth edition and will have five tournaments participating. Sri Lanka’s Matheesha Pathirana and Chamika Karunaratne complete the list of four players named to feature for Colombo Strikers.
Fakhar Zaman is the other international name from Pakistan set to play in the competition. He will be part of Kandy Falcons’ setup for tournament which will also be his first outing in the league.
Matthew Wade has also been named as an overseas signing for Dambulla Aura. He will step out alongside South Africa fast-bowler Lungi Ngidi, as well as top-order batters Kusal Mendis and Avishka Fernando.
The other biggest overseas names announced are David Miller and Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who will play for Jaffna Kings and Kandy Falcons respectively.
Sri Lanka players Wanindu Hasaranga, Angelo Mathews and Thisara Perera have also been announced.
The tournament will get underway on July 30, and will run through until August 20. The 2022 edition was won by Jaffna Kings, who beat the then named Colombo Stars in the final. It was the side’s third title, having won every edition of the tournament to date.
