Virat Kohli laughed in surprise when he came to take the award for hitting the most sixes. He shook hands with one of the dignitaries at the podium and collected the prize. Looking at Kohli’s startled face, presenter Harsha Bhogle said: “He’s wondering why it’s him. There are five people who hit two sixes, Virat. You scored the most runs, so that’s why you get it.” Kohli walked back with a burst of laughter in his face.
The five cricketers to hit two sixes each were Kohli, Dinesh Karthik, Prabhsimran Singh, Jitesh Sharma and Shashank Singh. Kohli top-scored in the game with a 49-ball 77 that also included 11 boundaries, helping Bengaluru to gun down a close run chase.
He was also awarded the Player of the Match for his scintillating knock. It was his 100th T20 score in excess of fifty. He became the first Indian and the third overall, after Chris Gayle and David Warner, to reach the milestone.
