Watch: Virat Kohli imperiously short-arm jabs 92mph Mark Wood over long-on in stunning powerplay assault
Watch: Virat Kohli smashed a 148.9kph Mark Wood delivery for a huge six over deep mid-wicket to continue his onslaught in the powerplay over against Lucknow Super Giants today (April 10).
Kohli got off to a flier in the powerplay, smashing 42 runs in the first six overs – the most that he has hit ever in a T20 game. He started off cautiously, scoring 23 runs in the first 18 deliveries before upping the ante in the sixth over of the innings, sent down by Wood.
RCB skipper Faf du Plessis was on strike for the first ball of the over, and he handed the strike to Kohli, who started off with a four off a 149.2kph delivery. The batter backed away, exposed all his stumps, got under the ball and smashed it down the bowler’s head for a superb boundary.
He bettered it with a nonchalant whip over deep mid-wicket on the very next ball. Kohli waited for the short ball and pulled it for a maximum, racing away to 42 in 25 balls. The former India skipper currently has a strike rate of 252.17 against Wood in all T20 games.
Kohli brought up his second fifty of the season in 35 deliveries before being dismissed for 61 in 44.
