Watch: R Ashwin uprooted Sikandar Raza’s off stump with a carrom ball, drawing the batter forward before getting it to straighten in an IPL 2023 clash between Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings today (April 5).

Raza, only the third Zimbabwe player to take part in the IPL (after Tatenda Taibu and Ray Price), was dismissed for 16 (13) in the first game of the season, and was unable to get a big knock on Wednesday as well, falling for a 1 (2) to Ashwin.

The first ball of the 17th over of the innings was drifted in by the off-spinner, drawing Raza on his front foot, with the ball moving away. However, it straightened as it moved past his outside edge, and Raza was unable to pick the ball, which went onto crash onto his off stump. The batter was unable to keep his balance, succumbing to all fours. He walked back with the scorecard reading 159-3.

Punjab ended up making 197-4, with Prabhsimran Singh’s stunning fifty and Shikhar Dhawan’s unbeaten 86 in 56 balls.
