Watch: Birthday boy Ashish Nehra floors commentator Murali Kartik with hilarious below-the-belt knee poke
Watch: Ashish Nehra might have just turned 44, but the child inside him is still active – ask Murali Kartik, who was at the receiving end of a schoolboy antic by the pitchside, ahead of the Kolkata Knight Riders – Gujarat Titans IPL 2023 match.
Kartik and Nehra were long-time India teammates, playing majorly under Sourav Ganguly’s captaincy in the 2000s. They briefly also played together in the IPL, for the now-defunct Pune Warriors India. Now the head coach of Gujarat Titans, the defending champions this season, Nehra reunited with Kartik, working as a commentator. Amid all the laughter and chatter, cameras caught Nehra suddenly poking his knee into Kartik’s abdomen. Kartik helplessly folded to the ground – Nehra, as ever, broke into full-blown laughter.
Despite the impish prank, Nehra was nice enough to help Kartik back on his feet. Those around joined in the amusement, including Mohammed Shami, who lent a hand as well. Back up, Kartik tried to repeat the same on Nehra, but the former left-arm quick sneakily escaped, laughing all along.
The behind-the-scenes footage was shared during KKR’s innings – Nehra was seen sitting in the team dugout and laughing at the big screen. At the same time, Kartik was in the commentary box – fair play on the former left-arm spinner for taking it all so sportingly.
