Both teams have won twice in three games in this year’s IPL so far, although Rajasthan are placed higher in the points table courtesy of a superior net run rate (2.067 as compared to CSK’s 0.356).

For the hosts, Ruturaj Gaikwad has been the star performer, scoring 189 runs in the edition, at a strike rate of 162. He was joined by Ajinkya Rahane in the last game, against Mumbai India, as he smashed a 19-ball fifty on his debut for the team.

Rajasthan, on the other hand, have also been led by a young India opener in Yashasvi Jaiswal. He has 125 runs in three games in IPL 2023, scoring his runs at a strike rate nearing 165. In the last match, against Delhi Capitals, he scored 60 in 31 balls to give Rajasthan an excellent launchpad.

In Jos Buttler, Jaiswal has an in-form partner, and Rajasthan will hope their openers can set the stage for them tonight as well. An injury forced Buttler to have his finger stitched, but he did turn out against Delhi.

For CSK, the unfit Ben Stokes and Moeen Ali did not feature in the last game, while Deepak Chahar was injured during his first over. On the other hand, they now have Maheesh Theekshana.

Chahar’s injury will be a big blow Chennai, while there are still question marks over Stokes’ participation.

Overall, RR have a stronger team on paper, but CSK are playing at their den, and will have the home support.
