It will be the last home game for CSK at the Chepauk, and all eyes will naturally be on their captain, MS Dhoni. Given where they stand on the points table though, Chennai are likely to return for one of the two playoff games at Chepauk.
Match 61, Chennai Super Kings v Kolkata Knight Riders
Date: 14 May 2023
Time: 7.30pm
Kolkata Knight Riders seemed to have encountered a series of ups and downs since Rinku Singh played that jaw-dropping cameo against Gujarat Titans. And while there have been flashes of brilliance, KKR are currently eighth on the points table, and in serious danger of losing out in the powerplay race. It would require a massive effort to change things around at Chepauk, CSK’s fortress.
In the earlier match, RCB defeated RR by 112 runs, bundling them out for 59, the third-lowest total in IPL history.
Today’s IPL 2023 match – CSK v KKR: Team news
It’s a known fact that MS Dhoni’s knee continues to trouble him, but that wouldn’t stop the great man from taking the field in front of Chennai’s loyal fanbase. Ben Stokes was deemed fit, but hasn’t been able to find a spot as the winning combination has been retained. However, there could be a chance he comes in for Maheesh Thikshana, even though CSK wouldn’t want to risk not playing the extra spinner. Another option is getting in Mitchell Santner.
For KKR, spin is likely to be the way to go as well, especially to test CSK’s middle order by slowing things down. On the injury front, Umesh Yadav is likely to stay sidelined due to the hamstring injury that currently affects him.
Predicted XIs:
Chennai Super Kings: Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ajinkya Rahane, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni (c, wk), Deepak Chahar, Tushar Deshpande, Maheesh Theekshana/Mitchell Santner, Matheesha Pathirana
Kolkata Knight Riders: Jason Roy, Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Venkatesh Iyer, Nitish Rana (c), Andre Russell, Rinku Singh, Shardul Thakur, Sunil Narine, Harshit Rana, Suyash Sharma, Varun Chakravarthy
Today’s IPL 2023 match – CSK v KKR: Match prediction
It will require a Herculean task for KKR to test CSK’s mighty depth at their home base. If their spinners can cause issues in the middle overs and restrict them to a sub-par total (if CSK bat first), it could make for an interesting game. On paper, CSK are favourites.
