Punjab Kings, who missed out on the play-offs in 2022, will be hoping to qualify this time out. They have a new skipper at the helm too, with Shikhar Dhawan taking over from Mayank Agarwal. The latter was released after he had a sub-standard outing with the bat and was subsequently picked up by Sunrisers Hyderabad at the IPL auction in December 2022.
Punjab Kings have a powerful batting unit, which comprises of skipper Dhawan, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Liam Livingstone and exciting Indian wicket-keeper batter Jitesh Sharma. They would also hope that Jonny Bairstow, currently recovering from injury, is fit in time to have an impact at the upcoming edition of the IPL.
At the auction, they broke the bank to acquire Sam Curran. The England fast-bowler is expected to add muscle to their lower order and could form a potentially formidable fast-bowling troika alongside Arshdeep Singh and Kagiso Rabada. Sikandar Raza was also bought at the auction, and the Zimbabwean provides Punjab Kings with a variety of options.
