The most significant of these changes took place in the Punjab Kings camp. They replaced head coach Anil Kumble, assistant coach Jonty Rhodes, batting coach Julian Wood, and bowling coach Damien Wright with – in that order – Trevor Bayliss, Brad Haddin, Wasim Jaffer, and Charl Langeveldt.
Mumbai Indians promoted Zaheer Khan from direct of cricket operations to global head of cricket development, and Mahela Jayawardene from head coach to global head of performance. They appointed Mark Boucher in Jayawardene’s role, replaced Robin Singh as batting coach with Kieron Pollard (who announced his retirement from the IPL), and roped in J Arunkumar as Boucher’s assistant.
Chennai Super Kings, too, replaced bowling coach L Balaji with the recently retired Dwayne Bravo. When Brendon McCullum took up the role of the England Test team, the Kolkata Knight Riders got Chandrakant Pandit for him. They also got Ryan ten Doeschate as fielding coach, while promoting former fielding coach James Foster as Pandit’s assistant.
After parting ways with head coach Tom Moody, Sunrisers Hyderabad promoted batting coach Brian Lara in his place. Lucknow Super Giants, meanwhile, promoted team mentor Gautam Gambhir to global mentor.
