Yuzvendra Chahal has claimed that he was “hung from the balcony” by an inebriated teammate from his then IPL franchise Mumbai Indians, at a get-together following an IPL game in Bengaluru in 2013.

Chahal’s claim came in a video on Rajasthan Royals’ YouTube channel, also featuring R Ashwin and Karun Nair, in which he narrates a story from his time at Mumbai Indians during his maiden IPL season in 2013.

Chahal starts by saying he hasn’t shared this story with anyone, explaining in detail the incident which he says came at a players’ get-together following a game in Bengaluru.

“This dates back to 2013, when I was with Mumbai Indians; we had a game in Bangalore, and there was a get-together after that,” Chahal said. “There was a player who was quite drunk – I won’t name him – he just called me ‘Yuzi, come here’, he was looking for me for a long time.

“He took me outside and hung me from the balcony. My hands were like this (signals hands around the other person’s neck). Had I lost my grip… I was on the 15th floor. Suddenly, many people who were there came and they controlled the situation. I kind of fainted, they gave me water.

“Then I realised how responsible we need to be wherever we go. This was one incident where I had a narrow escape – I was about to go, and I came back. Had there been the slightest of mistakes, I would have fallen down”.

Chahal played only one game in IPL 2013, against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Bengaluru.
