Debutants Titans registered their first win in the competition, scoring 56 in the last 26 deliveries against Lucknow Super Giants, who were also playing their first game of the competition. Chasing 159 for a win, Gujarat were struggling at 113-4 in the 16th over, but some big hitting from Tewatia turned the tide.
The first ball of the 17th over by Bishnoi was a flatter delivery on the middle stump, but the batter decided to go all out as he switched into a right-hander and then smashed the ball for a huge six over point. Bishnoi, who had gone for 17 runs in his three overs, lost his momentum thereafter, and gave away 16 runs in his fourth, along with a wide, as the game shifted towards the Titans.
Tewatia, who was batting on 17 off 13 at one point, took on the charge following David Miller’s dismissal in the 18th over, smashing 23 runs in his next 11 balls to take the side over the line. His job was made easier with the presence of Abhinav Sadarangani, who smashed an unbeaten 15 in only seven balls, including two fours in the last over, to hand Gujarat a five-wicket win.
