Livingstone surged to 30 off 10 balls, with 28 off those runs coming in a single over off his last six deliveries faced, with the mammoth 117-metre blow the undoubted highlight of his knock.
With five overs to go, Punjab Kings were heavy favourites, needing 27 runs to win. However, they wouldn’t have expected to be walking off the park with victory secure with four overs still to spare, especially with India Test star Mohammed Shami coming on to bowl.
Livingstone tucked into the right-arm quick from the off, with the first delivery of the over smashed into the third tier of the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy, to the amazement of the on-air commentators, with Kevin Pietersen describing it as the biggest six he had ever seen.
The blow broke the record for the biggest six of the tournament so far by five metres, with Dewald Brevis’ 112-metre hit the previous biggest. Shami walked back to his mark with a wry smile on his face.
Livingstone was far from done, hitting two more sixes in his next two balls, before two boundaries and a two in his next three balls sealed the win in quick time.
Livingstone has enjoyed a stellar IPL campaign so far, with 293 runs at 32.56 and a strike-rate of 186.62. Only one batter with more than 100 runs in the competition has a higher strike-rate: Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Dinesh Karthik.
