Watch: Pace sensation Umran Malik flattens Devdutt Padikkal’s middle stump with rapid in-dipper in scorching IPL spell

by Wisden Staff 1 minute read

Watch: Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Umran Malik, currently considered one of the fastest bowlers in India, dismissed Rajasthan Royals’ Devdutt Padikkal with a rapid delivery from round the wicket that nipped back in to take the batter’s middle stump during IPL 2022.

Umran, who was retained by SRH ahead of IPL 2022 after earning plenty of praise for his ability to constantly bowl over 150kph, was at his fiery best against Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday. Though he was quick right from the first delivery, Umran was initially struggling to control his line and lengths and conceded 24 runs in his first two overs, but bounced back strongly, giving away seven runs in his next over.

He never dropped his speed though, and the first five deliveries were sent down at 143, 150, 147, 148 and 144 kph, respectively. He proceeded to get his second wicket of the game with yet another scorcher, beating Padikkal for pace. The back of a length delivery, sent from round the wicket, quickened after pitching and nipped back in to completely bamboozle the batter. Padikkal’s middle stump was blown away as he walked back for a 29-ball 41.

Rajasthan notched up a competitive 210 in their 20 overs, with skipper Sanju Samson leading front the front, scoring 55 in only 27 balls. Umran ended his quota of overs with figures of 2-39.
