Watch: Jonny Bairstow continued his explosive white-ball form in IPL 2021, blitzing the start of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s chase of 151 against defending champions Mumbai Indians.

Having blasted a half-century in Sunrisers’ opening game defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders, he earned a promotion to open the batting, reestablishing his fearsome partnership with David Warner. Bairstow batted like a man with a point to prove, racing out of the blocks.

At the end of the fifth over he had 40 runs off 15 balls, having knocked off more than a quarter of the target by himself. His assault contained four sixes, with the most eye-catching the first. While it wasn’t a huge hit, it was expertly directed to make maximum impact, smashing into the drinks fridge in the SRH dugout, breaking the glass panel of the door.

Having been made to sit on the sidelines for part of IPL 2020, it was as if to say, ‘I won’t be running drinks again anytime soon’.
