Regular Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma was fined INR 12 lakh for a slow over-rate in their IPL 2021 clash against Delhi Capitals. However, Kieron Pollard led MI on the field, with Rohit going back to the dressing room early in the chase.

“Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match against Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on April 20,” the IPL said in a press release.

“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr Sharma was fined Rs 12 lakh. ”

According to the tournament requirements, an over-rate of 14.11 overs per hour must be maintained by the fielding side. Additionally, the 20th over must begin within 1 hour and 30 minutes from the start of the innings.

MI’s bowling innings against DC began at 9.30 PM local time and was wrapped up at 11.25 PM local time – a period of almost two hours. While Rohit wasn’t on the field through most of the chase, he will have to pay the fine as their regular skipper.

While the reason behind Rohit leaving the field wasn’t specified during the game, the MI captain later revealed he had a niggle and walked off as a precaution. He was seen standing in the dressing room during the chase.

“Just a small niggle, should be okay,” he said.
