IPL 2021: The English Players In The Indian Premier League Auction
by Wisden Staff 3 minute read

A total of 17 English players are set to go under the hammer at the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) auction on February 18, a mixture of expected names and bolts from the blue.

Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, Chris Jordan, Eoin Morgan, Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow were all retained by their respective franchises, and so are already confirmed to be taking part in the competition.

Tom Curran, Moeen Ali and Jason Roy, all released after IPL 2021, have put their names forward again, but Harry Gurney and Tom Banton will sit out the upcoming edition. Joe Root will also forgo the chance to press his T20 World Cup ambitions.

Alex Hales, arguably in the form of his life, but still on the outer with England due to disciplinary reasons, has put himself forward at the same price as one of his main competitors for an international top-order spot, Dawid Malan.

Liam Plunkett, who last played for England in the Cricket World Cup final, has set himself at the highest possible base price, while at the other end of the spectrum, two uncapped players find space in the long list.

George Garton, a left-arm quick whose action has been compared to Mitchell Johnson’s, is at the lowest base price, as is 42-year-old left-arm spinner Nayan Doshi, a former Surrey stalwart, and one of the early heroes of the T20 format.

He was the first bowler to reach the milestone of 50 T20 wickets, and played in the 2011 and 2012 editions of the IPL. However, he hasn’t played any professional cricket since 2013, plying his trade in club cricket in England in that time.
