In an admirable display of leadership, Rishabh Pant consoled young fast bowler Avesh Khan after he was hit for two straight sixes. His pep talk helped, as Khan picked up a wicket next ball.
The increasingly impressive Pant keeps adding feathers to his cap. After scoring a vital 51 with the bat and taking a superb catch behind the wicket to dismiss the dangerous Jos Buttler, the 23-year-old flexed his leadership muscles in a narrow defeat to Rajasthan Royals.
While Delhi Capitals were firmly in control with RR reeling on 90-6 in their 148-run chase, David Miller was still at the crease and looked in good touch. He took young Avesh Khan to the cleaners in the 16th over, slamming consecutive sixes on the third and fourth deliveries – one of the few sixes in a low-scoring affair.
Pant then showed impressive composure as he ran down to the non-striker’s end to talk to his bowler. The skipper’s guidance struck a chord with the pace bowler, as he bowled it straighter and right under Miller’s bat. The left-hander tried to slam it straight down the ground for a hat-trick of sixes, but could not clear the fence and was caught at long-on.
