Out of quarantine, Kane Richardson ‘sitting by the phone’ for IPL news

Despite the uncertainty about the IPL, Kane Richardson is mentally ready to be in India for the tournament, which starts on April 15, for now.

Richardson was one of 17 Australians signed up for IPL 2020, which has been postponed from its scheduled March 29 start. As the world grapples with the coronavirus pandemic and a slew of sports events are cancelled, there is doubt if the tournament will even take place.

Richardson, who acknowledged that there were “literally 12 scenarios that could happen”, including a shortened IPL, or none at all, said on The Unplayable Podcast that he and his countrymen are waiting to hear any news from the BCCI.

“A lot of the blokes have opinions – ‘it’s going to get cancelled’, this and that – but again it can change in a day, it can change in a week, so I’ll just sit by the phone and get ready to play for the 15th at the moment. That’s what I’m thinking.”

The RCB signing, who had a coronavirus scare himself and had to be quarantined before his tests came back negative, isn’t averse to a short and sharp IPL 2020.

“Busy’s good in India,” he said. “Any time you get a week between games, you go a bit crazy. You want to keep playing, travelling and moving.  Maybe this is the future – a season in three weeks. Maybe we can do it.”
