IPL 2020 News: September 20
Jos Buttler, who arrived in the UAE after featuring for England against Australia in the recent white-ball series, will miss Rajasthan Royals’ first game of IPL 2020 against Chennai Super Kings on September 22.

The opening ceremony, a usual event ahead of every IPL season, will be done away with for a second time in a row.

Australia, England players arrive in UAE
The Australia and England players arriving in Dubai will only have to go 36 hours of quarantine instead of the usual period of six days. This means that the players are likely available right from the start of the tournament.
However, those based out of Abu Dhabi might have to undergo a six-day quarantine, making them unavailable for their teams’ first matches.

Ali Khan replaces Harry Gurney
Harry Gurney, the Kolkata Knight Riders quick who will not participate in IPL 2020, has been replaced by USA bowler Ali Khan.

IPL schedule announced
BCCI have announced the 2020 IPL schedule, which starts on September 19. Defending champions Mumbai Indians will take on Chennai Super Kings in the season opener in Abu Dhabi.
DC’s assistant physio tests positive
A member of the Delhi Capitals contingent, the team’s assistant physio, has tested positive for Covid-19 after his arrival in UAE. “He was yet to meet with, and had not been in contact with any players or staff of the franchise,” a DC statement said.
“He was isolated immediately, and is currently at the IPL Isolation Facility in Dubai for the next 14 days, at the end of which he will have to produce two negative reports for him to be able to join the Delhi Capitals squad.”

RCB expand their contingent
RCB have roped in five more net bowlers, including left-arm spinner Shubhang Hegde, who was part of India’s squad to this year’s U19 World Cup. The five bowlers travelled to Dubai on Friday, September 4, and are currently under quarantine.
Mustafizur denied NOC
Mustafizur Rahman, the Bangladesh pacer, has not been granted NOC by Bangladesh Cricket Board to participate in IPL 2020, according to a report in Cricbuzz. Mustafizur was reportedly approached by Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders to be an injury replacement for this season.

IPL 2020 News: September 4
CSK (finally) begin practice
Having spent almost two weeks in quarantine since their arrival, CSK finally had their first practice session in UAE on Friday, September 4. The team had to postpone their initial round of practice after 12 members of the contingent tested positive for Covid-19.

Harbhajan pulls out
Harbhajan Singh has pulled out of IPL 2020, citing personal reasons. The 40-year-old off-spinner, who did not travel with Chennai Super Kings to UAE last month, had stayed back in India to be with his ailing mother.

Malinga out, Pattinson in
Lasith Malinga, the Sri Lanka pacer, will miss IPL 2020 for personal reasons. The highest wicket-taker in IPL history, Malinga will be replaced at MI by Australia quick James Pattinson.
