Elbow injury rules Jofra Archer out of South Africa T20Is

by Wisden Staff 1 minute read

Fast bowler Jofra Archer will miss England’s three-match T20I series against South Africa next month due to an elbow injury.

Archer was ruled out of the last three matches of England’s four-Test away series against the Proteas with soreness to his right elbow. He returned to the UK on Tuesday and will focus on regaining fitness.

Saqib Mahmood, who has been awarded an ECB pace bowling development contract and is in the squad for the ODI series that precedes the T20Is, will replace Archer. Archer was set to be rested for the ODIs when England announced their limited-overs squads for the tour in December.

The three-match ODI series will begin on February 4, with the T20I series starting on February 12.
