Khawaja forced to remove banned dove sticker from bat

Australia opener Usman Khawaja was forced to peel off a dove sticker from his bat on day three of the Wellington Test against New Zealand.

It happened when Khawaja cracked his bat during Australia’s second innings, with Matthew Renshaw coming in with a replacement bat from the bench.

The incident adds another chapter to Khawaja’s continuing history with the International Cricket Council (ICC), as he was previously barred from wearing boots with “All lives are equal” and “Freedom is a human right” messages.

Webster racks up counter-attacking hundred

Beau Webster scored a cracking 167 not out off 180 balls to rescue Tasmania from 71 for 6 to 307 in their second innings of the Sheffield Shield clash with Victoria.

The all-rounder partnered with No.11 Riley Meredith (44) to put up a 153-run stand, the biggest last-wicket stand in Tamania’s shield history. The duo broke William Ward and Norman Dodds’ 122-run partnership in 1899.

Somerset could lend Shoaib Bashir out on loan

Somerset are open to allowing Shoaib Bashir to go out on loan during the 2024 season, with head coach Jason Kerr mentioning the club will “always do what is best for the player”. “We will always do what is best for the player and we’ve done it time and time again,” Kerr said. “We’ve allowed people to go on loan and get some cricket because it can benefit them and us in the future, and we’ve said no to players because they’re next in line and we might need them.”

Kerr’s comments came after England’s red-ball head coach, Brendon McCullum, called for game time for the current crop of spinners on their India tour.

Bashir has impressed with 12 wickets in 2 matches in the ongoing India tour, including a maiden five-for in the fourth Test at Ranchi.
