Australia opener David Warner has pulled out of the inaugural edition of The Hundred.

James Erskine, Warner’s manager, confirmed the decision had nothing to do with the Covid-19 pandemic, and a report from ESPNcricinfo puts the choice down to “family and personal reasons”.

Warner had been picked up by Southern Brave in the top price bracket, fetching a hefty sum of £125,000 at the inaugural The Hundred draft. His participation was first put into doubt back in January due to a scheduling clash between Australia’s tour of Zimbabwe and the new English competition.

In the past few days, Erskine suggested Warner was ready to travel to play in the Indian Premier League despite a travel ban put in place by the Australian government.
