Shaw had signed up for his first county stint for the Northants this year for the One-Day Cup. After two sedate outings, he came into his own with two successive centuries, including the sixth-highest individual score in List A cricket history.
However, the promising stint has been cut short by a knee injury. According to a statement released by Northamptonshire County Cricket Club, the extent of the injury is “worse than initially expected.”
The Northants statement mentions that Shaw injured his knee while fielding during the match against Durham on August 13. Scans revealed that the injury was worse than expected, consequently ruling out him from the remainder of the season.

Northamptonshire fielded against Durham after having lost the toss, so Shaw’s injury must have occurred during the first innings. Yet, he came out to bat in the chase of 199 and hit 15 fours and seven sixes in a dominating 76-ball 125 not out.
In the game before that, Shaw had registered his name in List A and county record books with a 153-ball 244 against Somerset at a strike rate of 160. In the process, he became just the fourth batter to score multiple List A double hundreds.
Shaw’s untimely injury made his road to an India comeback even tougher. Having last played for India more than two years ago, he was named in the T20I squad to face New Zealand earlier this year but did not manage to get into the XI. A horrible IPL 2023 then stopped his comeback trail before it began.
With an impressive show in the One-Day Cup, Shaw would have hoped to impress the Indian selectors. He will now have to wait for a decent amount of time before getting back on to the field. Currently under the guidance of the BCCI medical team, he is expected to see a specialist in London on Friday (August 18).
