India spinner Washington Sundar continues to make an impact during his stint playing county cricket with Lancashire, taking the important wicket of Jordan Cox on the final day of his side’s fixture against Kent at Emirates Old Trafford.

The Kent game is Washington’s second in a Lancashire shirt after he impressed on debut, taking five first-innings wickets in their win over Northamptonshire at Wantage Road.

Wins are a must for Lancashire, who currently lie in third place in the Division One table, and defending 312 in the fourth innings, they got off to a brilliant start, removing three of Kent’s top four for single-figure scores.

Washington kept the pressure on the visitors, prising out the wickets of Jack Leaning and Jordan Cox during the second session. The dismissal of Cox – a 21-year-old former England Under-19 batter who averages more than 45 in this year’s County Championship – was particularly eye-catching.

Washington, still only 22 himself, flighted one well outside Cox’s off stump before the ball turned back sharply into the right-hander, needling through the gap between his bat and pad to rattle off stump.
