Watch: James Anderson rips Joe Root’s off and middle stumps out the ground with inducking beauty in Roses County Championship clash

by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

Watch: James Anderson bowled Joe Root with a beauty in Lancashire’s County Championship clash against Yorkshire.

The legendary England quick pierced his international teammate’s bat-pad gap with an inducking pearler to demolish the stumps, with off and middle left on the ground and Anderson celebrating with gusto.

The wicket could prove crucial in deciding the result of the Roses derby, with Lancashire having enforced the follow on and Yorkshire attempting to bat out the final day for a draw. The Root wicket left the hosts on 45-3, still trailing by 142 runs with more than 60 overs to play. The former England Test captain had looked in excellent form in the first innings, making 147, his first Roses century, even as none of his teammates were able to pass 50.

Anderson is likely to make his England comeback in the first Test of the Brendon McCullum-Ben Stokes era, having been dropped for the last series under Joe Root’s captaincy, a 1-0 defeat against West Indies.

His long-time new-ball partner Stuart Broad was among those to appreciate Anderson’s wicket.
