The Pakistan pace bowler was on fire against Middlesex at the Rose Bowl, returning figures of 6-11 to bundle them out for 79.
Targetting the stumps and the outside-edge in time-honoured fashion, Abbas dismissed Max Holden, caught at slip, with his fifth delivery of the game, before picking up the wickets of Nick Gubbins (lbw) and Stevie Eskinazi (caught behind to complete his hat-trick. He was far from done, returning in his third over to remove Robbie White and Martin Andersson, both leg-before. There were just 13 balls between his first and fifth wicket of the innings.
Abbas then claimed a sixth, with Sam Robson’s 54-ball vigil ended by a catch at slip, but hopes of all 10 were dashed when Kyle Abbott bowled Toby Roland-Jones. He ended with wonderfully symmetrical figures of 11 overs, six maidens, six wickets for 11 runs.
