Paterson, who last played for South Africa in January 2020 before taking a Kolpak deal with the Trent Bridge club, had an excellent day three on the field. He returned figures of 3-30 in his nine overs, while also pulling off an unbelievable catch to remove Samuel Connors.
The 32-year-old was in action immediately after an attempted hook from Connors sent the ball swirling into the air. Paterson sprinted around the edge of the boundary, effortlessly plucking the ball out of the air without slowing his run, and carrying on in a wild, fully justified celebratory lap.
It was an impressive overall display from the South African, whose effort has now given Nottinghamshire their first win in first-class cricket in over 1,000 days.
