The England and Wales Cricket Board have announced the full list of County Championship 2020 fixtures.
The County Championship begins on April 12, with Yorkshire, Gloucestershire, Lancashire, Kent, Somerset, Warwickshire (Division 1), Middlesex, Worcestershire, Sussex, Durham, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire (Division 2) all in action on the opening day. Division 1 champions Essex start their campaign at home on April 19.
The English county season ends with the final round of matches on September 22.
In 2020, the County Championship Division 1 will feature 10 teams, up from the eight last season. Lancashire, Northamptonshire, Gloucestershire earned promotion to the top level in 2019, while Nottinghamshire were relegated, joining seven other teams in Division 2. From next season, the format will revert to a two up, two down system.
Despite the increase in teams, Division 1 sides will still play only 14 fixtures; this means all teams will not play each other twice.
Somerset, last season’s title contenders, will start on -12 points after being handed a 24-point deduction (12 suspended) for producing a surface rated ‘poor’ for their championship-deciding match against Essex.
