Canada will be making their first ever appearance in a men’s T20 World Cup this year. A 20-team event, the ninth edition of the competition is the biggest ever, allowing teams like Canada, who are ranked much lower in ICC’s T20I team rankings, an opportunity to participate.
Canada are placed in Group A alongside co-hosts USA, Ireland, Pakistan and India. They will kick start the T20 World Cup on June 1 with a clash against neighbours USA in Dallas.

Saad Bin Zafar will lead Canada at the T20 World Cup. The 37-year-old left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder has an experience of 38 T20Is. The makeup of the rest of the Canada squad is based largely on experience as well. Only four of the 15 members of the main squad are younger than 30, while five players are aged 35 or more.
Most recently, Canada played a five-match T20I series against the United States of America, which they lost 4-0. Their last T20I series before that was the Americas Region Final qualifying tournament, which they won by beating Bermuda in the final to qualify for the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Former Sri Lanka and Canada international Pubudu Dassanayake will continue as the head coach of the team, having started in the role in 2022.
