After their 4-1 series win over Zimbabwe at home, Bangladesh have unveiled their 2024 T20 World Cup squad. Najmul Hossain Shanto, who became the team’s all-format captain earlier this year, will lead them in the tournament with Taskin Ahmed serving as his deputy.

Taskin to travel

There has been an injury concern regarding Taskin, which forced him out of the T20I series against the USA before the tournament. Hasan Mahmud has been added as a replacement for the series and will fly as a travelling reserve along with all-rounder Afif Hossain for the T20 World Cup. It is understood that Taskin will be travelling with the team and the management is hopeful of his return ahead of the global competition.

Shakib Al Hasan, who took a four-wicket haul in the fourth T20I after returning to play in the format in almost a year, has been included. Apart from the veteran all-rounder, the squad has plenty of experience in Soumya Sarkar, Mahmudullah, and Mustafizur Rahman with Shoriful Islam in the mix.

No Miraz

The most notable omission was Mehidy Hasan Miraz, as Bangladesh went with spin-bowling allrounder Mahedi Hasan. Tanvir Islam and Rishad Hossain are the other two specialist spinners.

Bangladesh are placed in Group D alongside South Africa, Sri Lanka, Netherlands and Nepal. They will begin their campaign on June 7 against Sri Lanka at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas.
