Australia’s ODI World Cup-winning captain, Pat Cummins, has been appointed the captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League. Cummins cracked a deal of INR 20.5 crore with the SRH, making him the then-most expensive buy in the tournament’s history before Mitchell Starc fetched a whopping INR 24.75 crore from Kolkata Knight Riders.
This is the first time Cummins will lead any team in a professional T20 match and his new role could be a litmus test as Australia’s captain before T20 World Cup in June.
Cummins is one of the 16 Australia cricketers who will ply their trade across various franchises with nine of them from the triumphant 2023 ODI-series winning squad in India.
While Delhi Capitals have the most number of Australians (4) in their ranks, Chennai Super Kings are the only side that doesn’t have anyone from the country.
Talented young South Australian Jake Fraser-McGurk is the competition’s latest addition after Delhi Capitals named him as a replacement for Lungi Ngidi, who was ruled out due to a knee injury.
