The first Test of the series will be played at the Adelaide Oval before both teams travel to Brisbane for the second Test at the Gabba. It’s Australia’s final red ball assignment of their home summer following their 3-0 whitewash over Pakistan. Pat Cummins leads the side having taken three consecutive five wicket hauls in the series against Pakistan, with Australia naming an unchanged bowling attack.
AUS vs WI: Australia news
The only change to the hosts’ lineup is enforced from David Warner’s Test retirement. Steve Smith will move up to open alongside Usman Khawaja, which leaves room for Cameron Green to come back into the side at No.4. Australia have already named their starting XI from their 13-player squad, with Scott Boland and Matt Renshaw the two names to miss out from the group.
AUS vs WI: West Indies news
The West Indies selection has been more complicated, with several players having made themselves unavailable for the series to fulfil franchise commitments. This includes Jason Holder and Kyle Mayers, with fast-bowler Jason Seales ruled-out of the tour with a shoulder injury. Alzarri Joseph has been appointed vice-captain for the series, deputising for Kraigg Brathwaite, who is in charge of a 15-man squad which includes seven potential debutants.
Brathwaite has announced his XI for the first Test, which includes Kavem Hodge, Justin Greaves and Shamar Joseph who will all make their Test debuts. Tagenarine Chanderpaul will once again open the batting with Brathwaite, having made his Test debut in Australia 13 months ago. Kemar Roach will lead the bowling attack, with Gudakesh Motie selected as the only spinner.
