Jonny Bairstow followed David Malan to a century on the second day of the third Test at the WACA in Perth.
And the England wicketkeeper-batsman celebrated his three-figure score not only with an emotional look to the heavens but also by head-butting his helmet, in a jocular reference to the Cameron Bancroft controversy that has followed him since the last day of the first Test in Brisbane.

Bairstow, who was promoted from No.7 to No.6 in England’s batting line-up, made 119 as England compiled 403 all out in the first innings, collapsing from 368-4.

Geoff Boycott, commentating for Test Match Special and BT Sport, rated it as Bairstow’s best Test innings to date. “To play without a blemish, a nick, a chance – he’s batted beautifully. If he got up the order a bit he might get a few more hundreds too.”
