The five-match series has had plenty of build up, with Pat Cummins replacing Tim Paineas the Australia skipper. The hosts have drafted in Alex Carey as the wicketkeeper of the squad after the former skipper opted for a break due to mental health issues. Usman Khawaja makes his comeback, but Travis Head will take a spot in the XI.
The England side will see the return of Ben Stokes, who missed a major part of 2021 due to a finger injury, which was followed by a mental health break. They are, however, without the services of Jofra Archer. Jos Buttler is the vice-captain of the side, with Joe Root leading them.
Australia have held onto the Ashes urn after the last two series, defeating England 4-0 in 2017/18 and then drawing the return series 2-2 two years later. The series will be a part of the ongoing World Test Championship 2021-23.
The Ashes 2021/22 will be played from December 8 and will run till January 18. The second Test of the series at the Adelaide Oval will be day/night affair. The fifth Test, originally scheduled to be held at Perth, will be relocated due to border restrictions following Covid-19 guidelines.
