Northamptonshire have signed Kyle Coetzer for the T20 Blast, the club announced on Friday.

The Scotland captain, who played for the county between 2011 and 2015 and was part of the cup-winning side of 2013, will be involved for a short stint starting with the home game against Nottinghamshire Outlaws.

Northants coach David Ripley said the batsman will provide excellent cover for his injury-hit squad. “Kyle is a good T20 player,” he said. “With us missing a few experienced players through injury, having someone like Kyle in the squad will be good.”

Rob Keogh (finger injury), Adam Rossington (thumb) and Rob Newton (calf) are some of the more high-profile players on the list of absentees.

Coetzer scored a fifty when Scotland defeated England in the one-off ODI last month and has featured in 44 T20Is, while he has amassed an impressive 2,324 runs in domestic T20s.
