Anrich Nortje bowls Jos Buttler with 96mph delivery

by Wisden Staff 2 minute read

A quite spectacular battle unfolded in the IPL on Wednesday night as Rajasthan Royals took on Delhi Capitals.

With Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler opening the batting for the Royals in a chase of 162 – the two Super Over heroes reunited – they were tasked with taking on the hostile South African pace duo of Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje.

And it was Buttler v Nortje that grabbed the eye. Bowling the third over of the powerplay, Nortje was deposited for a straight six from his very first ball. A few balls later – Nortje’s pace rising – Buttler used his quick feet to pull off a ramp shot, which he then repeated the very next ball.

But it was Nortje who then had the last laugh, bowling Buttler with a straight one clocked at 155.1 kph, according to the broadcast.

Nortje later added the wicket of Robin Uthappa to his collection and on his way to the player of the match award as the Capitals ran out winners.

The Capitals sit at the top of the IPL table with 12 points while the Royals are second-last with six.
