The winter nets have been running for some time, and the excitement is building as the summer inches nearer by the day.

You’ve been looking up some new bats online; the old, wonky piece of willow from last year was the reason the average didn’t sit pretty on the charts.

But forget about your individual needs; there’s a more important issue pervading the club cricket scene at this time of year. In just a few weeks, most clubs up and down the land will have their insurance fall under renewal.

Leading the way in helping clubs in this process are insurance brokers Marshall Wooldridge and their ExtraCover Insurance scheme, which is the UK’s largest provider of cricket club insurance.

ExtraCover Insurance already cover thousands of cricket clubs, but there are still plenty of steps that need to be followed by existing customers over the coming month. “It’s so important that clubs have reviewed their cover for the forthcoming season,” says sports development manager Mark Dearden. “Have they made any improvements to their club pavilion? Have they put any extra security in place?”

Ensuring that new equipment is insured is, therefore, an issue of priority. “We try and get as many newsletters to clubs out there, without bombarding them, just highlighting certain areas that they could review that may not have been reviewed for many, many years.

“Each year cricket clubs can apply for grants from a wide variety of sources, including their local cricket board, to invest in everything from mobile pitch covers to new kitchen equipment. If cricket clubs have benefitted from a grant, have they added their new equipment to their insurance policy?”

Cricket clubs choosing to insure with ExtraCover Insurance are always given the best advice together with an appropriate level of insurance designed to meet the needs of their club and their members.

“If your cricket club is insured with another provider or if you’re unsure about the cover your cricket club has and you’d like some advice, send us a copy of your insurance schedule,” says Dearden. “We don’t need to know the premium, as we’re confident we can compete in almost all circumstances. We’re interested in cover. We will advise clients as best we can: that’s our mantra.

“Recently I was asked to quote for a club and we put terms forward, but as the club was in an area known to flood, we weren’t able to cover to them. We advised them to stay with their current insurer for the property if they had flood cover. We wouldn’t want anyone to come to us if they were going to get less cover. That’s not what we’re about. Our desire is to help clubs.”
