Zimbabwe will play two home Tests against Afghanistan from December 26. Here are the full squad lists for the series, including injury updates and replacements.
When will the ZIM vs AFG 2024/25 Tests be played?
The first Test will be played between December 26 and 30 followed by the second between January 2 and 6. Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo will host the two matches. All games will start at 10:00 am local time.
The series marks Zimbabwe’s first Boxing Day Test at home in 28 years and their very first New Year’s Test. The tourists claimed the preceding T20I series by 2-1 and ODI's 2-0.
ZIM vs AFG 2024 Tests: Team News
The hosts have named as many as seven uncapped players for the historic series. Ben Curran, brother of England internationals Tom and Sam, is one of them. The other uncapped players are middle-order batter Johnathan Campbell, wicketkeepers Tadiwanashe Marumani and Nyasha Mayavo alongside fast bowlers Trevor Gwandu, Takudzwa Chataira and Newman Nyamhuri. They will be led by veteran Craig Ervine, with Sean Williams, and Sikandar Raza among other experienced campaigners in their ranks.
Rashid Khan, named in the Afghanistan squad, is set to make his Test comeback after nearly four years, having last played in the format in March 2021. The squad also has the same number of uncapped players as Zimbabwe's, including Azmatullah Omarzai, Fareed Ahmad, Riaz Hassan and Sediqullah Atal. They are joined by all-rounder Ismat Alam, Zahir Shehzad and fast bowler Bashir Ahmad Afghan. They have also named three travelling reserves – Ibrahim Abdulrahimzai, Zia ur Rahman Sharifi and Nasir Jamal.
