The youngster, who is yet to turn 19, made his ODI debut earlier this year and has had a fine start to his career. The off-spinner has played 11 games, picking up 21 wickets at an average of 13.57. He gets a wicket every 20 balls in the format and has already scalped two five-fors, the latest of which came against Zimbabwe on Saturday.

Ghazanfar has picked up at least a wicket in seven ODI games, including taking three or more wickets four times. Twice he has taken a five-for, with the first instance being his figures of 6-26 that came against Bangladesh last month.

Waqar, Rashid and Ghazanfar – an elite list

His splendid start has been rivalled by just two other players in the past. Waqar Younis and Rashid Khan are the only two players to pick up more than one ODI five-for before turning 19. Overall, only seven players have a five-wicket haul in the format before turning 19, with Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who has one five-for, the third Afghanistan player on the list.

Ghazanfar’s bowling average of 13.57 is also the best among all players who picked up at least 20 ODI wickets before the age of 19 - he is closely followed by Rashid (14.74), making them the only two bowlers who averaged 15. Ghazanfar’s strike rate of 20 is also the highest, with Rashid once again in second place, with a strike rate of 22.2 before turning 19.
