Each WPL franchise has announced the players they will release ahead of the 2025 edition of the tournament today (November 7), with some surprising names on the list. Here are all the players each franchise has released.
The deadline for announcing which players each franchise would retain and release was today for the next edition of the tournament, which is due to take place early next year. Ahead of the auction, reportedly set for early December, franchises have opted for different approaches in either radically redesigning their squad or opting for continuity.
The biggest list of players released came from defending champions RCB. They have opted to release both Heather Knight as well as Nadine de Klerk, who came into the squad for the England captain when she pulled out of last year's tournament through injury. They have also chosen to release five other players.
The biggest name of the day to be released was fast-bowler Issy Wong, who played for Mumbai Indians in both previous editions of the tournament. Wong played two matches in last year's tournament and took three wickets, following her role in the side's title-winning campaign in 2023, where she took a hat-trick in the semi-final.
Among other big names on the release list are Sneh Rana and Lea Tahuhu from Gujarat Giants. Gujarat finished at the bottom of the league table last year and have also opted to release Scotland international Kathryn Bryce.
