West Indies’ Chinelle Henry smashed the joint-fastest WPL fifty while batting at No.8 during the Delhi Capitals-UP Warriorz clash on Saturday (February 22).
Henry, who did not have a T20 fifty in 63 innings before the game at the Chinnaswamy Stadium today, walked out to bat at No.8 in Warriorz’s innings. Her team had slipped to 89-6 as a third successive defeat loomed.
However, Henry ensured they ended with a competitive total of 177-9 courtesy of a sensational knock of 62 that came in just 23 balls. She started aggressively, scoring 14 in the first seven balls that she faced, before moving onto 32 in her next five balls courtesy of two sixes and a boundary in the 17th over. There was no stopping her thereafter, and she eventually also brought up her maiden T20 fifty in just 18 balls. It is the joint-fastest in the tournament's history, with Sophia Dunkley having reached the milestone in 18 deliveries as well in 2023.
Only one other batter, Shafali Varma, has made a WPL fifty in fewer than 20 balls, also achieving the feat in the first season of the competition.

Other records broken by Henry during WPL blitz
Henry, who had a T20 batting average of 14.64 before the match, smashed as many as eight sixes, the fifth-highest by a batter in an innings in a women’s T20 game.
Her knock of 62 is also the highest-ever by a No.8 batter in the format. She overhauled Grace Wetherall’s score of 57* from May 2023. If she had made five runs more, Henry would have also made the highest score by a batter at No.7 or below in a women’s T20.
Henry’s innings came at a strike rate of 269.57, which is the seventh-fastest fifty-plus knock in the history of women’s T20s. The record belongs to Tess Flintoff, who made an unbeaten 51 in 16 deliveries during the 2022 Women’s Big Bash Bash, making her runs at a strike rate of 318.75.
